About
Research:
My dissertation examines news-based talk, populist modes of representation, conservative social movements, and how working class culture is being put to contemporary political use. As my primary object of analysis, my project looks at the ways in which populist presentational styles are utilized and performed on cable news talk shows, particularly, how they have been deployed in the coverage of the 'Great Recession.' My theoretical framework for interpreting televisual, journalistic forms of populism draws upon sociological theories of class, political theories of populism, cultural studies discourse analysis, and the fields of Critical Communication, Television, and Journalism Studies.
